Before Jesus began His ministry on the earth, He was baptized in the Jordan and the Holy Spirit of God came over Him. He went to the wilderness where He fasted for forty days and forty nights, full of the Holy Spirit.

During this period He was tempted of the devil. (Luke 4:1-2).

If you have been called into the ministry of Christ, there is a level you need to get to before you get in the ministry if you don’t want to shame yourself and shame the gospel of Christ. Salvation by itself is not enough, you need to be filled by the Holy spirit and have the power of the Holy Spirit.

So baptism by water and prayer and fasting are crucial.

You need the Spirit to lead you in overcoming the temptations of the devil whenever you fast for it is through fasting and prayer and overcoming the devil that you get the power of the Holy Spirit. With this power you can lay hands on the blind and they see, you can speak the word of the cross with authority and by this power many can come to repentance and live by the way of the cross.

By this power you can persevere persecution that would come your way while in the ministry. Many ministries fade in the air a few years after conception when they encounter persecution and they are unable to withstand the storms.

To get the Power of the Spirit we need to make fasting a norm in our lives. There is need to tame our appetite for food, during our fast we need to study the word, worship and pray.
